i personally think  the list feature is a better way of going 

to  sort and create your friends lists into different lists is  easy but a little time consuming 

click > Account then select > Edit Friends then click  +Create List

you will be presented with a popup box like below

Have you made a group ?
let me tell you a few things about these groups you make

1 you get to add  all of your friends to it with out asking them to join
2 it lets you share links  posts  to all thats in this group
3 it lets you chat to all in this group even if there chat is normally turned of to you

but what it does not tell you is it lets you spy on your Facebook friends that have chat open to only a select few people allowing beggers to keep bugging you for things
the people you add do not get the opportunity to  accept or decline the request they are auto added to these groups which is unfair  to them
